NCLEX Preparation Practices You NEED to Avoid

Attention Nursing Students! A quick message from Pedagogy author & CEO of The Nurse Speak, LLC: Do you have any of these bad NCLEX preparation habits? If you do, make sure you stop doing them right away!

#1. Pulling all-nighters

Having 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night can mean the difference between failing and passing the exam. Plan your schedule properly so you can avoid cramming and get the much needed rest to be 100% ready for the exam

#2. Over-caffeinating

Make sure you take the right amount of caffeine! Too much can cause you jitters and will make your anxiety shoot through the roof! You don't want to be super tense for the exam because you will have a hard time focusing. Plus, caffeine will make you dehydrated, or you have to use the restroom too often. All of these can be bad for your ability to lose focus.

#3. Neglecting matters outside of studying

The most successful NCLEX takers have a proper balance between studying and relaxation. Don't forget to take a break! Maybe watch your favorite show or read a book. Whatever helps you relax and ease tension, be sure to do it! You should not study or do practice questions for the 3 or 4 hours.

#4. Making NCLEX prep your #1 priority

You really don't want to do this. The number #1 priority is ALWAYS self-care. If you devote all of your energy to studying for the NCLEX, or if you are too hard on yourself and don't schedule in time to exercise, eat balanced meals, stay hydrated, and engage in fun activities with friends and family, then you are setting yourself up for failure. Remember that a dead nurse is no good to anyone - so you MUST take care of yourself so that you can perform at your optimal best

#5. Failing to plan Post-NCLEX

So you've taken the NCLEX now what? Have you made plans for a celebration with family or friends for your victory over the exam? Having something nice to work towards can serve as a good motivation! If you happen to fail, remember it's not the end for you. MORE THAN 20% of nurse graduates have a difficult time passing the NCLEX, so what's important is that you have a plan to develop strategies for NCLEX Success - and that's exactly where I can HELP!

If you need help with the NCLEX, have question, or just need to know what option is best for you, don't hesitate to book a FREE 15-minute inquiry call with me!
