The Fall Prevention Care Process
In order to produce a society where older adults can live safe, healthy and independent lives, the need for fall prevention strategies is a must. While falls are a threat to the health and independence of older adults and can significantly limit their ability to remain self-sufficient, the opportunity to reduce falls among older adults has never been better. Learning proven interventions that can reduce falls and help older adults live better, and longer lives is key in the health care setting.
The goal of patient safety practices like fall prevention is to prevent additional harm to patients while they are under the care of a care provider and to make surroundings safer for when they are by themselves. Integrating a fall prevention program can be key in a better understanding of why falls occur and, more importantly, what can be done to prevent falls from happening. Falls can never be accepted as ordinary events since there is a great deal that we can do to prevent them.
